About Us

Our Mission Statement

TOTS’ TOWN, INC., Child Care Center provides quality early childhood education programs that are geared towards establishing and maintaining a safe, nurturing environment for children. It is our aim to enable children to explore and discover the world in a secure and pressure-free environment. At our child care center, youngsters are given a chance to develop new skills, learn new things and build new friendships.

Our Child Care center was established way back in 1989. We designed our programs and surroundings to meet the needs of working families of young children ages 18 months to 5 years as well as a limited school age program for children up to age 9. We wanted to give parents the option of services that are flexible to their schedules thus gave way to full-time and part-time child care programs that they can enroll their children. All the while, we strived to maintain the best of quality in early childhood education where we stimulate and encourage learning in all aspects of a child’s development. Our programs enrich the child’s physical health and motor development, social and emotional development, language development, literacy, cognitive development mathematics, science, social studies and creative arts through the guidelines we follow in the RI Early Learning and Development Standards. As young as our students are, we know that they need to be prepared for their future. Here at TOTS’ TOWN, INC., Child Care Center, we provide them with the social tools and mental skills necessary to be successful in their potential professions and to promote harmonious relationships with their peers.

Family Engagement

When children go home after their day at TOTS’ TOWN, INC., Child Care Center, they resume family life. This is a critical time for parents to reinforce what children learned. For this, we encourage parents to establish a positive and productive relationship with their child. We have staff who are trained to be sensitive to students’ needs – and consequently, we communicate with parents so they can help guide their children towards success in learning. A child’s love for academic and creative advancement fully blooms when there is support from family. This is a principle we apply with each day that we spend with your children at TOTS’ TOWN, INC., Child Care Center.

Teachers work in teams and center wide each month to design curriculum that is appropriate to the needs and interests of each age group. We use the developmental domains identified in the RI EARLY LEARNING & DEVELOPMENTAL STANDARDS as the basis for our ongoing assessments and develop activities involving dramatic play, sensory activities, writing, scientific experiments, dance, music, mathematical concepts, cooking, walking, field trips and many more that engage students. We also meet weekly, when necessary, to discuss social/emotional development of certain student(s) to determine appropriate responses to the emergent needs of that student(s).

Children participate independently, within small groups or with the group as a whole. Each day we balance free-play time with planned, structured activities for timed periods. Activities during the day are either child-initiated or teacher directed. This variety encourages independence, which help children practice and acquire social skills and encourage the development of a positive self-image. Prior knowledge of prosocial behaviors permeates our program. Our staff is devoted to self-directed and planned opportunities to help children develop problem-solving skills, to learn the importance and experience the benefits of cooperation and create a true sense of community.
